The Airbnb Turnover Checklist That Protects Your 5-Star Rating

April 7, 2026 Anna's Shine LLC

Short-term rental guests forgive a lot — but not a dirty bathroom or a hair on the sheets. Cleanliness is the single most common reason a listing drops from five stars to four, and it's the easiest thing to control.

1. Strip and start laundry first. Linens take the longest, so they go in before anything else. Everything else happens while the wash runs.

2. Work top to bottom, room to room. Dust and debris fall. Ceiling fans, shelves, and surfaces come before floors, every time — otherwise you'll vacuum twice.

3. Reset, don't just clean. Guests are comparing your space to a hotel. Fold towels the same way each turnover, angle the pillows, wipe fingerprints off stainless, and make the kitchen counter look staged rather than merely wiped.

4. Restock everything, every time. Toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, coffee, soap, dish tabs. Running out mid-stay generates a message, and messages generate mediocre reviews.

5. Report before the next check-in. A quick photo of a stained duvet or a broken blind gives you time to fix it before a guest finds it — and documentation if you need to file a claim.
